Sir John Gielgud (1904 - 2000)
A graduate of Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in
London,Gielgud made his stage debut in 1921 at the
Old Vic Theatre with one line in Henry VII. He made
his film debut in 1924 in Who is the Man.
Sir John Gielgud focused more in the threatre and
has been considered by some to be the best Hamlet,
a role that he first played in 1930, of this century.
Sir John Gielgud won a Tony for directing the broadway
play, "Big Fish, Little Fish".
While still performing on the stag on bothe sides
of the Atlantic, Gielard did some excellent work
in such movies as Richard III (1955, opposite
Laurence Olivier and Ralph Richardson), Becket
(he was nominated for the Best Supporting Oscar
award in 1964), and in Gandhi (1982)
Sir John Gielgud was knighted in 1953 and was
appointed a Companion of Honour in 1977.
