Born in Ohio, is real name was Joe Katz. Mainly a broadway preformer, Joel Grey won his Supporting Oscar for recreating his Tony winning role in Carbaret for the film version. From then on he proved himself a talented actor in several other films.

He is the father of actress Jennifer Grey.
