Ben Johnson (1918 - 96)
Ben Johnson was an Oklahoma-born cowboy when he
was hired by Howard Hughes to take a load of horses
to California in 1940. Ben Johnson ended up staying
in the golden state working as a horse wrangler
in westerns and as a stuntman for such western stars
as John Wayne and Gary Cooper. After working for several
years in Hollywood, Ben Johnson was started to get
get supporting roles in films and even got a starring
role in the 1950 film, Wagon Master. He then
briefly quit acting and went back to the rodeo circuit
and in 1953 was World's Champion Steer Roper.
He returned to films soon after, possibly because
there was more money in it and got consistant work
doing character roles in westerns. Ben Johnson was
a favorite of director Sam Peckinpah, thus he was
in many of his films during the 1960's and 70's.
Ben Johnson was married to Carol Elaine Jones from

Johnson recieved a star on the Hollywood Walk of
