Hugh Griffith (1912 - 80)
Welsh actor who was a bank clerk before going into
acting in 1939, but this career switch was put on
hold for he then went to go serve for six years
in Her Majesty's Army. Hugh Griffith returned to
the screen in in 1947 and went on to work consistantly
in pictures until his death in 1980.
Hugh Griffith is one of a small handful of performers
who have appeared in three Oscar-winning Best Pictures...
BEN-HUR,
TOM
JONES, and OLIVER!
He was also nominated (Supporting Actor) for TOM
JONES (63).
