About Uma Thurman (1970- )
Uma Karuna Thurman was born on April 29,
1970 in Boston, Massachusetts.
She spent most of her childhood in the town
of Amherst, MA as a result of her father, Robert Thuman's
job as a Professor at Amherst College. Extremely young,
Uma left boarding school at just fifteen years of age
to pursue an acting career in New York.
Uma first found success as a model with
her six foot slender frame being a perfect fit for the
field. But Uma's love for acting prompted her to keep
pushing for an acting career. Eventually Uma found breakthrough
success with her role in the 1988 film DANGEROUS LIASONS.
Her success sky-rocketed in 1994 after Uma earned an Oscar
nomination for her performance as the femme fatale Mia
Wallace in the racy blockbuster PULP FICTION. Thurman
also won a Golden Globe award for her performance in the
made-for-television film HYSTERICAL BLINDNESS (2002).
In 1995 Uma was chosen by Empire magazine
as one of the 100 Sexiest Stars in film history (#20).
Then in 1997 she was ranked #99 in Empire (UK) magazine's
"The Top 100 Movie Stars of All Time" list.
In 1990 Uma married Gary Oldman. The two
were together two years until their divorce in 1992.
Uma Thurman's latest marriage to Ethan Hawke
in 1998 recently ended in 2004. They met while filming
the 1997 sci-fi thriller GATTACA. They have two children,
Maya and Roan.
When asked about motherhood Uma stated,
"Before I had my child, I thought I knew all the boundaries
of myself, that I understood the limits of my heart. It's
extraordinary to have all those limits thrown out, to
realize your love is inexhaustible."
French cosmetics firm, Lancome, employed
Uma as a spokes model for their company in June 2000.
