She received an Oscar nomination for Best Actress in ANNA CHRISTIE, which was her first "talkie".

Greta Garbo's defining role was in MGM's 1935 ANNA KARENINA, where she played a woman torn between two lovers and her son. Other great Garbo films include: "Grand Hotel," "Camille," and "Ninotchka."

She was born Greta Lovisa Gustafson in Stockholm, Sweden in 1905. Greta Garbo had two nicknames: "The Face" and "The Swedish Sphinx." She died on April 15, 1990. More
