Charles Bronson - MovieActors.com

Charles Bronson was born Charles Dennis Buchinsky on November 3rd, 1921 in Ehrenfeld, Pennsylvania. He was one of fourteen children, son to struggling Lithuanian parents- his father was a coal miner. He died on August 30th, 2003. He had pneumonia and Alzheimer's disease.

Other than the change to stage name Bronson, Charles was nicknamed throughout his life as "Il Brutto" and "Le Sacre Monstre."

Bronson is best known for his tough, cold, violent characters in action thrillers and suspense films. He has been described as a weatherbeaten Clark Gable; ruggedly handsome and worn by life.

His defining role that made him an American star, was his 1974 mega hit, DEATH WISH.

Charles Bronson was first noticed by the public in THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN. Bronson got stronger parts in THE GREAT ESCAPE, THE SANDPIPERS, and THE DIRTY DOZEN.

Throughout the 1970s and '80s Charles Bronson basically stuck with action thrillers such as: BREAKOUT, TELEFON, THE EVIL MEN DO, MURPHY'S LAW, and BREAKHEART PASS.

Bronson did a black comedy with his wife, Jill Ireland, FROM NOON TO THREE.
