Donald Sutherland (1934 - )
Tall and somewhat odd looking, Sutherland spent the early
part of his career playing killers and weirdos in films like
THE DIRTY DOZEN and KELLY'S HEROES. That changed somewhat
with M.A.S.H. and KLUTE where he played a doctor and a cop
to great popular success.
Although he has not always found vehicles of this quality
over the years, Sutherland has always delivered complex and
interesting performances.
Donald was born in Canada. His son is actor Kiefer Sutherland.
His career got ae boost as one of the second-tier Army misfits
in THE DIRTY DOZEN (1967).
In 1970 Sutherland originated the role of Hawkeye Pierce
in Robert Altman's groundbreaking MASH. Southerland then costarred
with Jane Fonda in the popular thriller KLUTE (1971). Donald
Sutherland's breathless turn in JFK (1991), playing an ex-soldier
turned-informant, was a pivotal scene in that controversial
movie.
