Winona Ryder –

Ryder in BLACK SWAN.

About Winona Ryder (1971 – )
Winona Ryder was born on October 29, 1971 in Winona, Minnesota. She grew up on a commune without electricity on a Northern California ranch. Her godfather was Timothy Leary and her parents were friends with poet Allen Ginsberg.

Winona's birth name is Winona Laura Horowitz and she goes by the nickname Noni.

Director David Seltzer spotted her and cast her in Lucas (1986). When telephoned to ask how she'd like to have her name appear on the credits, she suggested Ryder as her father's Mitch Ryder album was playing the background.

In most of Winona's films, she's played a journalist, reporter, a writer, or just a teenager who writes in a journal or diary.

Ryder and Johnny Depp were an item for many years in their salad days. He had "Winona Forever" tattooed on his arm. When they broke up, he had it altered to say "Wino Forever"

In 1996, Winona Ryder was chosen as one of the "Top Players Under 35" list by People magazine. In 1997, Winona was Ranked #42 in Empire (UK) magazine's "The Top 100 Movie Stars of All Time" list, and Ryder was chosen by People magazine as one of the "50 Most Beautiful People in the World."

Winona received a star on the Walk of Fame in Hollywood in October 2000, and, for the event, was voted Best Dressed Celebrity of the Week by Entertainment Weekly. Ryder was a jury member at the 1999 Cannes Film Festival. She was nominated for an Academy Award in 1994 for her performance in The Age of Innocence and in 1995, her role in Little Women. She won a Golden Globe for her supporting role in The Age of Innocence. Winona was an Executive Producer for Girl, Interrupted.

She is best known for her roles as a goth styled daughter in Beetlejuice, the teenage love interest in Edward Scissorhands, Jo, the writer in Little Women, a defendant in The Crucible, a girl stuck in a mental institution in Girl, Interrupted, Lucy, the love interest in Dracula, an artificial life form searching for her identity in Alien Resurrection and most recently veteran ballet dancer in Black Swan.
