About Trevor Howard (1913 - 1988)

Trevor Howard was born in Cliftonville, Kent, England, lived in Ceylon, India his first five years, then traveled the next three years with his mother and finally attended boarding school in Bristol, England.  A veteran film, stage and television actor, Howard played in over a hundred films and television programs.  He is know for his intense blue eyes, British diction and gravelly voice.

He starred in BRIEF ENCOUNTER [1945] as an intriguing stranger on a train, the love interest for a married woman who is tempted to cheat on her husband.

In the 1949 classic film, THE THIRD MAN, directed by Carol Reed and based on the novel by Graham Greene, Howard plays the skeptical police inspector Major Calloway.

As the drunken Walter Morel in the D.H. Lawrence adaptation, Trevor Howard earned an Oscar nomination for SONS AND LOVERS (1960).  He also played in AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS[1956], MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY [1962], SUPERMAN [1978] AND GHANDI [1982]
