About Toni Collette (1972 - )

Toni Collette was born in 1972 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. A redhead, who considers herself an actor, rather than a movie star, Collette is not bound by type and often plays unusual characters caught up in a weird world.   

Toni Collette began her acting career on stage in Australia, where she won.  She played the title role in Muriel's Wedding [1994], for which she gained 40 lbs.  She began playing supporting roles in films in Hollywood with the film, THE PALLBEARER [1996].

In 1999, she played in THE SIXTH SENSE with Bruce Willis.  Toni Collette was nominated for an Academy Award for her portrayal of Lynn Cole, the disbelieving mother of the ghost-seeing child protagonist.  She received a million dollar salary for her role.  Then in 2006 she played in LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE with an ensemble cast, as Sheryl, a mother of a child beauty pageant contestant, surrounded by a family of struggling, disfunctional losers.
