Tom Ewell was born on April 29, 1909 in Owensboro, Kentucky. On September 12, 1994 Tom Ewell passed away in Woodland Hills, California.

Tom Ewell is sometimes credited as Tommy Ewell although his birthname is S. Yewell Tompkins.

In 2003 Tom Ewell was inducted in the Owensboro High School Hall of Fame.
