About Swoosie Kurtz (1944 – )
Named after her father's WWI plane, Swoosie Kurtz moved from state to state during her childhood because of her father's job. After graduating from school, she majored in drama at the University of Southern California and later attended the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.

Kurtz's first television appearance was on To Tell the Truth at age eighteen, introducing her father and two impostors. Her Broadway debut was in the 1975 revival of Ah, Wilderness!.

In 1977, she appeared in the Off-Broadway musical, A History of the American Film, for which she won a Drama Desk Award. Shortly after Swoosie was awarded  Broadway's "triple crown" (the Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Circle awards) for her portrayal of Gwen in Lanford Wilson's Fifth of July. Kurtz won a second Tony for her performance as Bananas in a 1986 revival of The House of Blue Leaves by John Guare.

Through the 1980s, Kurtz appeared in major films in ventures ranging from Against All Odds (1984) to Dangerous Liaisons (1989) and on television; in films like A Caribbean Mystery (1983) and The Image (1989). She was quite a success in television shows also, such as the series Love, Sydney (1981), for which she won an Emmy, and a starring role in the long-running Sisters (1991-1996).
