Shelley Long was born on August 23, 1949 in
Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Most resently Shelley Long played the overworked
nurse/assistant to Richard Greer in DR. T AND THE WOMEN in
2000.
In 1975 Shelley Long was writing, producing
and co-hosting a popular Chicago magazine program called SORTING
IT OUT. This show was a huge success it ran for three years
and won three Emmy Awards for Best Entertainment Show.
The film A SMALL CIRCLE OF FRIENDS in 1980 was
Shelley Long's film debut. Long's first leading lady role
was in CAVEMAN in 1981.
Putting a new twist on girl scouts Shelley Long
played the role of Troop leader to a bunch of rich girls in
TROOP BEVERLY HILLS in 1989.
Before CHEERS Shelley Long was a hooker in the
TV series NIGHT
SHIFT in 1982. Who would image she would go from hooker
to a barmaid.
From 1982-1987 Shelley Long played Diane Chambers
the always chipper, positive and a bit snobby barmaid in the
smash hit TV sitcom CHEERS. She played the part for five years
winning an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series
in 1983 and winning Golden Globe Awards for Best Supporting
Actress in a Comedy Series in 1983 and for Best Actress in
a Comedy Series in 1985.
In 1998 Shelley Long was the co-executive producer
for the TV series KELLY KELLY.
