About Robert Vaughn (1932 – 2016 )
American actor, Robert Vaughn, was born in New York City, the son of show business parents.

Vaughn was first noticed when he was nominated for his performance in The Young Philadelphians in 1959. Vaughn won an Emmy in 1978 for his performance in the TV miniseries, Washington: Behind Closed Doors. Vaughn was nominated for an Emmy in 1979 for his performance in the TV movie Backstairs At The Whitehouse.

One of his acclaimed film performances was in the sci-fi thriller Hanger 18, in 1980.

Vaughn's first lead role in television was for the series The Lieutenant, the role Vaughn played right before his widely successful run on the TV series The Man From U.N.C.L.E. Vaughn's portrayal of superspy Napoleon Solo made him an international superstar on television, and brought him to the attention of film makers as well.

In 1968, Vaughn co-starred with Steve McQueen in the film classic Bullitt. It was the first in a memorable string of performances in films from 1968-1971. During the first half of the Seventies, Vaughn went back to television in England, but came back to American television in the second half of the decade.

Vaughn is one of the few Hollywood actors to have a Ph.D. (in Political Science, from USC). He's also an author. His book, Only Victims, is a portrait of Hollywood during the 1950s blacklist. He also wrote an autobiography titled: A Fortunate Life.

Robert Vaughn passed away on November 11, 2016, after having battled acute leukemia at the age of 83.
