About Nigel Bruce (1895 – 1953)
Nigel Bruce was born on February 14, 1895 in Ensenada, Mexico. Nigel Bruce passed away on October 8, 1953 in Santa Monica, California, from a heart attack.

Nigel Bruce's birth name was William Nigel Bruce and he went by the nickname Willie.

Nigel Bruce is best known for his inimitable, forever-indelible portrayals of a most blithering Dr 'John Watson' opposite Basil Rathbone's Sherlock Holmes in Universal's World War II-era Holmes' films.

Bruce wrote an autobiography entitled: Games, Gossip and Greasepaint which has not been published. However, many extracts from his book were published in The Sherlock Holmes Journal (London/Oxford, England) Winter issue 1998 Volume 19 Number 1.

Nigel Bruce first played Dr. Watson in 1939's THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES. Nigel Bruce's last appeared as the character in 1946's DRESSED TO KILL the portrayal has endeared him to generations of fans.
