About Milton Berle (1908 – 2002)
Milton Berle was born on July 12,1908 in New York, New York. Milton Berle passed away on March 27, 2002 in Los Angeles, California from colon cancer.

Milton Berle's birth name was Mendel Berlinger. He changed his name to Berle from Berlinger in 1920. He went by the nicknames "Uncle Miltie," "Mr. Television," "The Boy Wonder," (as a child star), and "The Thief of Bad Gags."

Berle began performing when he was five. His first stage appearance was in Florodora in Atlantic City. Milton was the first person to appear on television, in an experimental broadcast in New York City, in 1928.

Milton Berle wrote three books over the years: Two volumes of autobiography – Milton Berle and B.S.: I Love You – and The Best Of Milton Berle's Private Joke File.

In 1984, Milton Berle was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame. In 1991, Milton became the first entertainer inducted into the International Comedy Hall of Fame.
