Martin Short was born on March 26, 1950 in Hamilton, Ontario,
Canada.
In 1995 Martin Short received the Earl Grey Award for his
work in SCTV at the Gemini in Toronto.
Shorts's first acting job was playing a giant Visa card in
a TV commercial.
Martin was trained to be a social worker but got bit by the
acting bug after taking a part in a production of GODSPELL
in Toronto, Ontario.
Short is a member of the exclusive Hollywood Gourmet Poker
Club with fellow card players Johnny Carson, Chevy Chase,
Steve Martin, Carl Reiner, Barry Diller, and Neil Simon.
On Inside the Actor's Studio, Martin said his favorite curse
word is "poo".
Martin Short is one of very few ex Saturday Night Live cast
members who have made guest appearances on the rival Saturday
night sketch comedy show MAD-TV.
In 1999 Short won Broadway's Tony Award as Best Actor (Musical)
for a revival of LITTLE ME. Martin Short was also nominated
in the same category in 1993 for THE GOODBYE GIRL.
