Dame Maggie Smith is a British actress who won 2 Oscars and has been nominated 4 more times. In 1970, she was made Commander of the Order of the British Empire, and twenty years later was made Dame Commander, by the British monarchy.

In 1969, Maggie Smith played the title role in THE PRIME OF MISS JEAN BRODIE, the story of a British schoolteacher's poignant, humiliating arrival at middle age. Smith won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance.

In CALIFORNIA SUITE [1978], based on the Neil Simon play, Maggie Smith plays an actress in LA for the Academy Awards. She received an Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting role for her performance.

The popular 1985 movie A ROOM WITH A VIEW provided Maggie Smith to play the dried up, sarcastic Brit which she became known for, but always with a fresh interpretation, in many subsequent movies. She was nominated for an Oscar for her performance.

Maggie Smith played Constance Trentham in Robert Altman's GOSFORD PARK [2001], a weekend guest at a country home, which is the occasion for murder. Smith was nominated again for an Oscar for her performance.
