About Kate Hudson (1979– )

With a winning smile, solid work ethic and talent, American actress Kate Hudson is a woman known for her ability to light up a room.

Kate Garry Hudson was born to famous actress mother Goldie Hawn on April 19, 1979. Kate came to prominence as an actress herself in 2001 after winning a Golden Globe and receiving several nominations, including an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, for her role in Almost Famous.

Hudson was a born performer - as a child she danced and sang at every opportunity. Instead of continuing her education after high school she opted to get her feet wet in the professional acting world first. She made her big-screen debut as an ambitious young starlet stranded in a tiny California town in Desert Blue (1998) alongside fellow up-and-coming young actors Christina Ricci, Casey Affleck, and Brendan Sexton III.

In 2000, Hudson appeared in the ensemble cast of Robert Altman's Dr. T and the Women, co-starring Richard Gere, Helen Hunt, Farrah Fawcett, and Liv Tyler. Her role in the romantic comedy How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days was a big success at the box office, grossing over $100 million after its February 2003 release. Hudson subsequently appeared in several romantic comedies, including Alex and Emma and Raising Helen; the films met with varying degrees of success.

Hudson followed that up with a thriller called The Skeleton Key in 2005, grossing over $91.9 million worldwide, then You, Me and Dupree co-starring Owen Wilson and Matt Dillon released in 2006 and grossing over $21.5 million on its opening weekend.

In 2008, she appeared in Fool's Gold, a romantic comedy released on February 8th, and her second film to co-star Matthew McConaughey and another romantic comedy, My Best Friend's Girl.

More recently, Hudson starred in the film adaptation of Jim Thompson's The Killer Inside Me which premiered in January 2010 at the Sundance Film Festival.

Hudson was married to Chris Robinson, the lead singer of the rock band The Black Crowes from December 2000 until they divorced in October 2007. The couple has one child, a boy named Ryder Russell Robinson.
