American stage actor who's real name was Mladen
Sckulovich. Karl Malden was born in Indiana
of Yugoslavian ancestry. Karl Malden worked
in a steel mill until the mid thirties, when
fed up with working manual labor, Malden left
and went to drama school and then headed for
New York. He appeared in such plays as Arthur
Miller's "All My Sons".
In 1954 Karl Malden was nominated for his performance
in ON
THE WATERFRONT.
He was president of the Academy of Motion Picture
Arts and Sciences from 1988 until 1993.
