About John Houseman (1902 - 1988)
His real name was Jacques Haussmann and he was
born in Bucharest, Romania.
American Actor/Director/Producer who helped Orson
Welles establish the Mercury Theatre, though the
pair became estranged during the making of Citizen
Kane. John Houseman produced many fine films
throughout the 1950's and 1960's. Taught acting
at the Julliard School of Fine Arts.
After winning his Best Supporting Actor Oscar,
at the age of 71, John Houseman suddenly found himself
in a new career, as a character actor, portraying
similar characters as Professor Charles W. Kingsfield.
During the 1980's he worked extensively in Television,
appearing in made-for-tv movies and miniseries.
Weeks before his death in 1988, John Houseman completed
cameos in the comedies The Naked Gun and Scrooged.
