About Jane Birkin (1946 – )
Jane Birkin was born on December 14, 1946, in London, England. Her mother, Judy Campbell was mostly a stage actress in her early years, did some films and more television projects in her later years. Jane's father was Royal Navy Lieutenant-Commander David Birkin and a World War 2 spy. Because she was in so many French speaking films, it was assumed that she was French, when she is really a Brit by birth.
Jane Birkin is a British actress, singer, screenplay writer, songwriter, and also has directed a film segment on LEST WE FORGET;(1991), a French TV movie, and an episode of a French TV series.
Jane went to Upper Chine School on the Isle of Wight. Jane Birkin began acting on stage, then made her film debut in Richard Lester's 1965 film,THE KNACK...AND HOW TO GET IT portraying a girl on a motorbike, in an uncredited role.
Her first credited role as "the blonde" was in the Antonioni's controversial 1966 classic, BLOWUP; a British film. Jane Birkin was one of the models who romp nude with David Hemmings, who plays the main male character, Thomas. This made quite an impression on the public, and got her noticed, though some in her family must of been unhappy.
Her second credited role was in the 1966 film, KALEIDOSCOPE; another UK picture. Her first co-starring role was in the 1968 U.K. film, WONDERWALL.
Birkin is best known world-wide for her performances in two crowd-pleaser Agatha Christie films: DEATH ON THE NILE;(1978) and EVIL UNDER THE SUN;(1982). Both films were very popular in the United States, and people became acquainted with Jane Birkin.
In 1984, Jane Birkin starred in Jacque Doillon's film, LA PIRATE, and was nominated for a Best Actress Cesar Award.
For her performance as the star actress in a 1985 Belgium French film, DUST, Jane Birkin won a Best Actress Golden Ciak at the Venice Film Festival.
In 1987, Jane Birkin wrote and starred in KUNG FU MASTER.

Jane has been unlucky in love. She has had one marraige to composer, John Barry, and they managed to have a daughter, Kate;(1967-2011), during their short, 3 year marriage;(1965-1968). The marriage ended when Johnturned out to be a real jerk, and left with another woman to go to America, blowing off his marriage and his child.
They had first met when Barry cast Jane in his musical, PASSION FLOWER HOTEL, which was a production of the Prince of Wales Theatre in London, beginning in August of 1965.
Jane went on to have two live-in relationships, but didn't try marriage again yet. Her second, long-term relationship was to her mentor, Serge Gainesbourg;(1968-1980). They had a daughter, Charlotte Gainsbourg.
When Serge died in 1991, Jane mourned him deeply, which affected her third relationship with Director Jacques Doillon, her live-in boyfriend from 1980-1992. They had a daughter, Lou Doillon in 1982.
Though Jane hasn't found the love of her life, she does have two surviving daughters, and is a grandmother. Jane is the grandmother to Kate's son, Roman de Kermadec, Charlotte's children, Ben, and Alice Attal, and Lou's son, Marlowe-Tigger Mitchell.
