About Jamie Lee Curtis (1958 – )
Born on November 22, 1958, in Los Angeles, California.
Jamie Lee's nickname is "The Scream Queen." Jamie Lee Curtis was born to legendary parents actress Janet Leigh and actor Tony Curtis. Her older sister from this marriage is actress Kelly Curtis.
Her parents divorced in 1962. Jamie has several half siblings from her father's marriages: Alexandra, Allegra, Ben and Nicholas; a troubled soul who died in 1994 from a drug overdose.
Concerning her father, Tony Curtis, Jamie shared in an interview;"He was not a father; he was not interested in being a father - and this is not a slam against him - he did what he had to do from a financial standpoint, which was honorable of him to do, but he wasn't an involved father. Therefore, I look at him much more from the perspective of being a fan of him. I was more of a fan of his work, of his spirit, of his joie de vivre (joy of living)... My mother was never a diva, my father was bigger than life, who lived in Vegas! There was no bond, not at all. Except for the fact that I inherited genetically a part of him."
Nickolas may have needed an involved father, and on some level, so did she. Both used self-medication techniques. Jamie is a recovering alcoholic, and has remained sober since 1999. She considers this her greatest achievement in her life.
Jamie went to Westlake School, Beverly Hills High School and graduated from a private school Choate Rosemary Hall in 1976. She went for one semester to the University of the Pacific in Stockton, Calif., with an interest in social work, but quit before the second semester, wanting to start her acting career.
Jamie Lee Won a 2003 Grammy nomination in the Best Spoken Album for Children category for her recordings of the children's books she has written.
In 1978, Jamie Lee Curtis got her big break in acting when she won the role of Laurie Strode in Halloween. It was on her suggestion that Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998) was made.
In 1983, Jamie won a BAFTA Award for Best Supporting actress for her performance in the 1983 film, TRADING PLACES.
In 1989, Jamie was nominated for a Best Actress Golden Globein the 1988 film, A FISH CALLED WANDA.
IN 1990, Jamie won her first Best Actress in a TV series Golden Globe for her performances in the 1989 show, ANYTHING BUT LOVE, co-starring with funny man Richard Lewis.
Jamie Lee's biggest action film ever, TRUE LIES (1994) was rewarded when she won another Golden Globe for her performance.
On September 3, 1998, Jamie was awarded a star for motion pictures on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6600 Hollywood Boulevard.
Jamie married the love of her life, actor Christopher Guest on December 18th, 1984. The couple adopted two children; Annie Guest;(b. Dec. 1986) and Thomas Guest; (b. March 1996).
Jamie Lee became Baroness, Lady Haden-Guest, when her husband inherited the Barony, in 1996.
As her family is the most precious to her, Jamie cut way down on taking roles in films and TV when her children were young and growing. Now that they are past 18, she has become a little more active in a few TV projects and even a few films, though it isn't as important, and she no longer considers herself to be an active actress.
Jamie is involved with charity work that is dear to her heart. "I'm not sure what fame is for if it isn't to focus on charitable work."
Jamie is a strong, active supporter of children's hospitals and their advocacy efforts. Other groups that she is actively involved with are WOMEN IN RECOVERY, and CHILDREN AFFECTED BY AIDS FOUNDATION.
