ABOUT HOLLY HUNTER (1958 - )

Holly Hunter was born on Conyers, Georgia.  Her father was a farmer and also worked part time as a sporting goods rep.  Her mother worked in the home and on the farm.  She graduated from Carnegie Mellon in drama.  She went to New York City, where she met playwright Beth Henley in a stuck elevator.  Subsequently, Hunter performed some plum roles in Henley's southern Gothic plays, in Crimes of the Heart and The Miss Fireracker Contest. 

Holly Hunter then moved to Los Angeles, where she starred in the campy Coen Brothers kidnapper story, RAISING ARIZONA, with Nicholas Cage.

Holly Hunter was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance of television news producer Jane Craig in BROADCAST NEWS in 1987. 

In 1993, she won an Oscar for her lead performance in a non-speaking role, as a mail order bride to a New Zealand planter in THE PIANO.  The same year, she was also nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her portrayal in THE FIRM.

In the 2000 Coen Brothers O BROTHER WHERE ART THOU? she played a small role in a big way, portraying the wife of escaped con George Clooney.

Holly Hunter was again nominated for a Best Supporting Oscar for her work in the movie THIRTEEN. 

Hunter executive produced a number of episodes of the television show, SAVIING GRACE, from 2008-2010.  Hunter starred in the series, as a jaded police detective with a heavenly connection.
