About Gloria Swanson (1897 – 1983)

Gloria Swanson was born GLORIA May Josephine Svensson on March 27, 1897 in Chicago, Illinois.
Sometimes Gloria Swanson is credited as Gloria Mae Swanson.
Gloria Swanson is the mother of actress Michele Farmer, actress Gloria Swanson Somborn, and son Joseph Patrick.

With the help of six marriages, Gloria Swanson was able to keep her fans guessing about her escapades for over 60 years. In a rebuttal Gloria Swanson wrote her own autobiography to clear up certain claims made by Rose Kennedy in Rose's 1974 memoirs. Swanson's 1980 autobiography is titled Swanson on Swanson.

Her first marriage to actor Wallace Berry was a disaster because Wallace drank too much and liked to rough her up. He inpregnated her, and tricked her into drinking a concoction that caused her abortion.

Her second marriage, in 1919, was to Herbert K. Sombom, President of Equity Pictures Corporations. Their marriage lasted three years, and they managed to have a daughter together; Gloria Swanson Somborn;1920. Gloria was accused of having affairs. After her divorce, she adopted a son; Joseph Patrick, who everyone was named after her lover at the time, Joseph Kennedy.

Her third marriage was to French interpreter, Henri de la Falaise:1925-1931, but her fame and wealth was an issue, and she continued to have affairs. However, in the beginning of WW2, Gloria smuggled Henri and his new wife out of Framce, J.I.T. before the Germans took over France.

Her fourth marriage was to actor Michael Farmer, and they managed to have a daughter,  Michelle Bridget Farmer during the short time they were married; again divorced because Gloria had another affair, this time to a married man. She broke off the affair once she realized that he would never leave his wife. Gloria learned a painful lesson.

In 1945, Gloria tried marriage again to William N. Davey, who turned out to be another drunk. He left when he found AAA material around the home.

She was done for awhile, and concentrated on her career for 30 years, before marrying the love of her life, author William Dufty.

At a Chicago movie studio with an aunt to see how motion pictures were made, Gloria Swanson was picked out of the crowd, because of her beauty, to be included in the film THE FABLE OF ELVIRA.
