George Wendt was born in Chicago, Illinois on October 17, 1948.
Tom Howard, George Wendt's Grandfather, was a famous photographer for the Chicago Tribune. Howard photographed the very famous picture of Ruth Snyder, the murderess being executed in the electric chair at Sing Sing in 1927. The photo appeared on the front page of the New York Daily News.
George Wendt attended a strict Jesuit Prep School. He attended Notre Dame University for two years. Wendt is a graduate of Rockhurst College in Kansas City, Mo.
From 1974 to 1980, George Wendt worked with the Windy City's famed Second City Comedy Troupe from 1974 to 1980.
In 1978 he married Bernadette Birkett. They have two sons and a daughter. The couple met while working at the Second City in Chicago. George Wendt's wife played the off screen voice of Norm's unseen wife Vera on CHEERS.

George Wendt is most well-known for his role as Norm Peterson in CHEERS. He played Norm Peterson on six different shows; CHEERS - 1982, ST. ELSEWHERE in 1982, THE TORTELLIS in 1987, THE SIMPSONS in 1989, WINGS in 1990 and FRAISIER in 1993.
Along with Ted Danson and Rhea Perlman, George Wendt was one of the three actors to appear in all 273 episodes of CHEERS.
George Wendt is an avid Notre Dame football fan. George always attends the Notre Dame versus USC game in Pasadena where it is held every two years.
Between the years of 1984 and 1989, George Wendt was nominated for six emmys for his role as Norm Peterson on CHEERS. In 1999, he was nominated for a Genie Award for RUPERT'S ISLAND
