Gena Rowlands was born on June 19, 193,0 in Cambria, Wisconsin.

Sometimes Gena Rowlands is credited as Gena Rowland. However her birth name is Virginia Cathryn Rowlands.

John Cassavettes and Gena Rowlands were married April 9, 1954. They had a long marriage that only ended when John passed away on February 3, 1989. Gena Rowlands is the mother of actors Nick Cassavettes, Alexandra Cassavettes and Zoe R Cassavettes. Gena's brother is actor David Rowlands.

Gena Rowlands made several movies with her husband, John Cassavettes. The first one was the 1963 film, A CHILD IS WAITING. In 1968, they made two FACES and INTOCCABILLI GLI. In the 70's, they made TWO MINUTE WARNING, A WOMAN UNDER THE INFLUENCE, OPENING NIGHT and MINNIE AND MOSKOWITZ. In 1980, they made the hit film, GLORIA. The last movie they made together was LOVE STREAMS.

Gena Rowlands was nominated for two Best Actress Acedemy Awards for her performances in A WOMAN UNDER THE INFLUENCE, and GLORIA.
