Fred Ward was born on December 30, 1942 in San Diego, California. Ward is a veteran character actor, whose rugged good looks and intense eyes have shone in many films from westerns to sci-fi to satire and comedy.
He played a RedNeck confederate solider Earl Smooter in SWEET HOME ALABAMA , as Reese Witherspoon's father and Mary Kay Place's husband. In the classic prison movie Fred Ward worked with Clint Eastwood
in in ESCAPE FROM ALCATRAZ.
When the giant worms are out to get you, who else would you
want to fight the worms but Fred Ward and Kevin Bacon in the sci-fi
hit TREMORS.
In 1990 Fred Ward co-produced the thriller MIAMI BLUES he
also played the Florida cop Hoke Moseley. Working opposite Alec
Baldwin and Jennifer Jason Leigh.
As an astronaut Fred Ward played Gus Grissom in the 1983 movie
