Franka Potente was born on July 22, 1974 in Munster, Germany.

Potente began her acting career in her native Germany, where she received critical acclaim and awards.  Long time companion Tom Tykwer wrote the title role for her in the frenetic crime thriller RUN LOLA RUN(1998) especially for her, in which she portrays the frantic, Lola with day-glo red hair in three different variations on the same plot to come up with 100,000 Deutchmarks in 20 minutes.

Then working in the U.S. she played the love interest at loose ends, in THE BOURNED IDENTITY in 2002 and THE BOURNE SUPREMACY in 2004, having to follow a strict fitness regimen and diet which she found tedious. Her trademark is her hair color, which changes with every film.  Sometimes after a film she has shaved off her chemically treated hair to get her own hair back.

In 2001 she played opposite Johnny Depp in BLOW, as his flight attendant girlfriend and partner in drug dealing crime.

Franka Potente speaks fluent French, English and German, she can play the violin, the flute and fence.
