AMADEUS (Musical/Drama – PG)

F. Murray Abraham won an Academy Award for his performance as the composer, Antonio Salieri, who was consumed with jealousy to the point of murder and madness as he competed with the young musical genius Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

About F. Murray Abraham (1939 – )

F. Murray Abraham has had a long career as a classical stage actor. His portrayals are aided by his rough complexion, bulbous nose and expressive brown eyes, which become putty in the hands of a master actor. His crisp, classical voice, combined with his looks, give him a unique screen presence, which he uses to great advantage giving intense often tormented characterizations in film and on the stage.

In addition to his spectacular portrayal of the agonized composer Antonio Salieri in the film AMADEUS, he played Ad'har Ru'afo in STAR TREK: INSURRECTION [1998], Sean Connery's nemesis in IN THE NAME OF THE ROSE and his rival in FINDING FORESTER.

In an interview with Leonard Maltin, who intimated to F. Murray Abraham that his career might have been jinxed by receiving an Oscar early on in his film career, Abraham replied:

The Oscar is the single most important event of my career. I have dined with kings, shared equal billing with my idols, lectured at Harvard and Columbia. If this is a jinx, I'll take two.

Abraham added philosophically:

Even though I won the Oscar, I can still take the subway in New York, and nobody recognizes me. Some actors might find that disconcerting, but I find it refreshing.
