Jones in THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING.

About Felicity Jones (1983 – )

Felicity Jones was born on October 17, 1983, in Bournville, an affluent suburb of Birmingham. Her birth name is Felicity Rose Hadley Jones. Her parents met while working at the Wolverhampton Express and Star Newspaper. Her father was a journalist, and her mother was in advertising. They divorced when Felicity was three, and she was brought up with her brother by her mother. Despite this, Jones says her family is "extremely close".

After her Kings Norton Girls School years , Jones attended another single-gender institution, King Edward VI Handsworth School. She studied English at Wadham College, Oxford, graduating in 2006. While there Felicity appeared in student plays, including Attis, where she played the titular role. In 2005, she was cast in Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors for the OUDS summer tour to Japan.

Jones paid her dues as a teenager, most notably playing a recurring character in the U.K. fantasy series, The Worst Witch. Another big break followed, with the role of Zoe Brogan in the prestigious drama, Cape Wrath.

In 2008 and 2009, Felicity Jones had prominent roles in Brideshead Revisited and the Stephen Frears film, Chéri. Her longest and perhaps best known role was on the BBC Radio 4 soap opera, The Archers, in which she played Emma Carter.

Early in 2011, Jones won a Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival for her performance as Anna, in Drake Doremus's Like Crazy. All of her dialogue was improvised. Her performance drew comparisons to Carey Mulligan's Academy Award-nominated appearance in the film, An Education.

Felicity Jones won the Best New Hollywood Award for Like Crazy at the Hollywood Film Awards. She also made a notable appearance in Chalet Girl, a 2011 romcom, for which she prepared with two months of snowboarding training and undercover work in a chalet, where she scrubbed toilets and partied at the Krazy Kanguruh bar.

In 2013, she broke off a ten-year relationship with boyfriend, Ed Fornieles, a sculptor and internet artist. They’d met at Oxford when he was at the Ruskin School of Art.

She is best-known for her Academy Award-nominated performance as the wife of physicist Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything.

Memorable Quotes

“When you're a young actor, there's this pressure to rush. But I hope to be doing this into my sixties and seventies, so I'd prefer to take my time. There's so much of a desire in the entertainment industry for newness, a desire to build somebody up and then treat them as old news within six months. I think you'd be naive if you didn't try to hold on to your own way of doing things.”
