Ewan McGregor was born on March 31, 1971 in Crieff, Perthshire,
Scotland.
In 1994 Ewan's first notable role was that of Alex
Law in SHALLOW GRAVE. His breakout film was TRAINSPOTTING [1996] in which he played a drug crazed loser.
While filming for KAVANAGH QC (1995) Ewan McGregor met his
wife, French designer Eve Mavrakis
McGregor is perhaps best remembered for his portrayal of the sagacious Obi-Wan Kenobi in the first three Star
Wars episodes. When casted as Obi-wan Kenobi in STAR WARS:
EPISODE 1 - THE PHANTOM MENACE, an interviewer reminded Ewan
of his "aversion" to major films, and he replied "I know what
I said, but, hey! This is Star Wars!"
In 1997 Ewan McGregor was ranked #36 in Empire (UK) magazine's
"The Top 100 Movie Stars of All Time" list. Ewan is ranked
#9 on '100 Greatest Movie Stars' Channel 4 (UK). Ewan McGregor was ranked eighth in the 2001 Orange Film
Survey of greatest British actors. He has been nominated for numerous awards.
In the film MOULIN ROUGE! Ewan McGregor sang alongside Nicole
Kidman. In 2002 Ewan McGregor received the Film Actor Award
for MOULIN ROUGE! at The Variety Club Showbusiness Awards. He also played in Tim Burton's BIG FISH [2003], the story of a father's reconcilliation with his son. Albert Finney plays the father in the present, McGregor plays the same character in the past.
