About Eugene Roche (1928 – 2004)

Eugene Harrison Roche was born on September 22, 1928, in Boston, Massachusetts, into an Irish Catholic family; the son of Mary Finnigan and Robert F. Roche, a Navy man.

Sometimes Eugene Roche is credited as Gene Roach, Eugene H Roche and Gene Roche.

At the age of 15, in 1933, Roche started on radio, displaying his knack for male and female character voices. For work in summer stock and variety shows, Eugene Roche appeared in productions of PAL JOEY, and POINT OF NO RETURN, with Henry Fonda.

After graduating from high school, Eugene enlisted into the Army. After his military service, he went to Emerson College.

Eugene married his first wife, Marjory Perkins, in 1953, and they lived in San Francisco, where Eugene got a variety of stage parts. They moved for the opportunities found in New York. Eugene started appearing in TV shows and commercials.

Eugene Roche began his acting career on stage, making his Broadway debut with BLOOD, SWEAT AND STANLEY POOLE in 1961. In 1963, Eugene was cast with Anne Bancroft in the play, MOTHER COURAGE. IN 1964, he won a role with Helen HAyes in the stage play, THE WHITE HOUSE.

Eugene Roche made a great living by appearing in film and TV projects as a versatile character actor, throughout the four decades of his career; enjoying both work, and family life; raising nine children.

Eugene and Marjory divorced in 1981. Eugene remarried Anntoni C. Bratman in 1982, and were together until Eugene's death in 2004.

Comedy was Roche's ticket on TV with recurring roles on SOAP; (1977), NIGHT COURT; (1984), and PERFECT STRANGERS; (1986).

Three of Eugene Roche's children have decided on careers in entertainment: Eamonn Roche and Brogan Roche are actors, and Sean Roche is an Emmy award-winning writer and producer.

"Persevere, and never allow anything or anyone to deter you from your passion. The world will cheer you one day and dismiss you the next so treat fanfare and failure as twins."

On July 28, 2004 Eugene Roche passed away in Encino, California from a heart attack at the age of 75.
