About Estelle Winwood (1883 – 1984)
Estelle Winwood was born on January 24, 1883 in Lee, Kent, England. Estelle's birth name is Estelle Goodwin.
AT the age of five, Estelle went to the circus, and saw a little girl on a white horse. This convinced her that she wanted to be an actress. While her father disapproved, her mother encouraged her dream.
Her mother enrolled Estelle at the Liverpool Repetory Company where she was trained to be a stage actress, and she did extremely well. As a youngn person, Estelle was acting in many stage plays in London's West End.
In 1916, Estelle made her debut on Broadway and worked with a number of acclaimed stage actors Einwood's real debut was QUALITY STREET in (1937), a picture which she undertook when she was in her 50s.
But in 1955, Estelle Winwood returned to the movies as Leslie Caron's "fairy godmother" in THE GLASS SLIPPER.
MURDER BY DEATH would be Estelle Winwood's last film.
At the time of her death (at age 101) Estelle Winwood was the all-time oldest member of the Screen Actor's Guild.
On June 20, 1984 Winwood passed away in Woodland Hills, California, at the age of 101.
