About Dwayne Hickman (1934 – )

Dwayne Hickman was born on May 18, 1934, in Los Angeles, California.

Sometimes Dwayne Hickman is credited as Dwane Hickman.

Having his art on display in many art galleries, Dwayne Hickman is an accomplished artist.

Dwayne Hickman made his acting debut as a child, along with his brother, Darryl, in the 1945 film, CAPTAIN EDDIE.

In the 40s, Dwayne Hickman continued acting during his childhood years, playing the role of Nip Worden in the Rusty film series: RUSTY SAVES A LIFE; (1949), MY DOG RUSTY; (1948), SON OF RUSTY; (1947) and the rest of the dog adventure series.

Dwayne grew up to be a handsome teenager, and won the hearts of many young females in his role as the girl-obsessed nephew, in the 1955 television classic: THE BOB CUMMINGS SHOW. This was followed by the TV series, THE MANY LOVES OF DOBIE GILLIS. While wildly successful, the damage to his ability to try noew characters was done.

Tired of being type-cast, Dwayne worked behind the scenes of the film business, starting in the 1970s; as a publicist, a Las Vegas entertainment director and, as a programming executive for CBS, that proved to be his most successful job. He occasionally is coaxed out of retirement to be an actor in light comedy films and TV series.

In 1994, Dwayne wrote about the issue of being type-cast; only being considered for a certain type of character, in his autobiography, entitled, "Forever Dobie."
