About Dom DeLuise (1933 – 2009)

Dom DeLuise was born on August 1, 1933 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of loving Italian American parents; Vincenza "Jennie" Stefano and John DeLuise, a garbage collector. Dom had an older brother, Nickolas, and an older sister, Antoinette.

DeLuise graduated from Manhattan School of the Performing Arts, and later went to Tufts University in Medford, Mass.

Dom DeLuise married the love of his life, Carol Arthur, in 1965. they had three sons: Peter, David and Michael.

He has appeared with all three of his sons as their father in "Third Rock From The Sun" and in the "Vapors" episode of "SeaQuest DSV"; (1993).

Dom DeLuise also appeared with his sons, and his wife Carol, in the movies HOT STUFF; (1979) and HAPPY; (1983-TV).

In the 1970s' and 1980s', Dom DeLuise was in several films with his good friend, Burt Reynolds. Some of the Dom and Burt films are THE CANNON BALL RUN, THE CANNONBALL RUN 11, SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT 11, ALL DOGS GO TO HEAVEN, and THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS.

Dom DeLuise was in many films of his good friend, Mel Brooks, such as THE TWELVE CHAIRS, BLAZING SADDLES, ROBINHOOD, MEN IN TIGHTS, SILENT MOVIE, SPACEBALLS, SILENT MOVIE, AND THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD, PART 1.

Mel Brooks said of Dom DeLuise, "He created so much joy and laughter on the set that you couldn’t get your work done. So every time I made a movie with Dom, I would plan another two days on the schedule just for laughter."

DeLuise published two books of his favorite Italian recipes, "Eat This!" and "Eat This, Too!" and is the author of two children's books: "Charlie The Caterpillar" and "Goldie Locks & The Three Bears: The Real Story!".

DeLuise's lent his voice to several animated features, including 1982's THE SECRET OF NIMH, 1986's AN AMERICAN TAIL, 1989's ALL DOGS GO TO HEAVEN, and 1991's AN AMERICAN TAIL: FIEVEL GOES WEST.

He was named as "King of Brooklyn" at the Welcome Back to Brooklyn Festival in 1984.

In Santa Monica, Calif., DeLuise passed away on May 4th, 2009, from kidney failure and cancer, at the age of 75.
