About David Warner (1941 – )

David Warner was born on July 29, 1941 in Manchester, England; the son of a Russian Jewish immigrant,Herbert Simon, and Doreen Warner. His parents were not married, and he was passed between his mother and father, growing up in an unstable environment.

Needless to say, His childhood and teen years were difficult. His father moved around a lot, changing jobs. Consequently, David went to a total of eight schools, and flunked his exams at them all. His mother left him completely when he was a young teen. David spent his teen years with his father and stepmother, which gave him a stability that he didn't have before, at least emotionally. David didn't see his birth mother until seven years later, when she was dying. Perhaps she had drug and alcohol issues.

David Warner applied to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, and was accepted because of his dramatic gifts; not because of his grades earned during his sorry academic career. David wasn't happy there, but he stuck it out and learned his craft, building his thespian talent.

David Warner began his career with the Royal Shakespeare Company in London as a romantic leading man, becoming successful on the stage; perhaps for the first time in his life, doing something he loved.

David Warner had no trouble jumping from stage acting to film and TV roles. David has appeared in nearly 200 roles in films and television programs.

In movies and TV, David wasn't always the protagonist, and developed a niche for playing the evil nemesis; winning roles in a delicious series of film villains.

In 1963, David Warner played Mr. Blifil; the jealous, uptight half brother of the wild, cherub title character, played by Albert Finney in the classic movie, TOM JONES.

David Warner starred with Vanessa Redgrave in the 1966 movie, MORGAN!, the story of an immature, gorilla-obsessed, dreamer and his soon-to-be estranged wife.

In the 1968 film, A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, he starred as Lysander, opposite Royal Shakespeare colleagues Dianna Rigg and Helen Mirren.

In 1976, Warner played a photographer and friend of beleaguered Gregory Peck in the horror flick, THE OMEN, who was famously decapitated by a large pane of glass.

He played Sark, a computer program run amuck, in the Disney sci-fi flick TRON (1982).

David Warner had fun performing character roles in various Star Trek projects. He played a human character in STAR TREK V: THE FINAL FRONTIER;(1989). David portrayed a more sympathetic Klingon character, seeking peace in STAR TREK VI: THE UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY; (1991.) David played a Cardassian interrogator in the television series, STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION (1992).

Warner played the Cal Hockley's villainous manservant, Lovejoy, in James Cameron's huge hit, TITANIC; (1997).

Warner played Senator Sandar in the 2001 remake of PLANET OF THE APES.

In 1981, David was awarded a Primetime Emmy, for his supporting actor performance in the TV Mini-series, MASADA. He played the character, Pomponius Falco.

David Warner was unlucky at love. He was married for a short time to Harriet Lindgren;1969-1972, before they went their separate ways. David married again in 1979, to Sheilah Kent. They had a daughter together in 1982. This marriage lasted 26 years; ending in 2005.
