About David Alan Basche (1968 – )

David Alan Basche was born in Hartford, Connecticut. His first acting role came in the sixth grade at West Hartford's Norfeldt Elementary School, in a school production of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Basche describes his childhood demeanor as that of an "angry, smart-ass kid." He tried out for and landed the lead role after a school counselor suggested he take up acting to channel some of his anger and emotion. He later appeared in several plays presented by the Greater Hartford Jewish Community Center while a student at King Philip Middle School, and had roles in ten school plays while attending William H. Hall High School in West Hartford. From there Basche moved on to Emerson College, where he began as a communications major before changing to performing arts.

His first major exposure came when he starred in Oh Grow Up, a short-lived sitcom created by Alan Ball. Later he played Steven Keats for two seasons in the NBC sitcom Three Sisters. He appeared briefly in Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds in the role of Tim, the stepfather of Dakota Fanning and Justin Chatwin's characters. In 2006 he was notable for playing Todd Beamer in director Paul Greengrass's United 93. David landed the lead role in 2007's I'll Believe You, a family-oriented sci-fi comedy. In 2008 he simultaneously played "Mike Harness" in Lipstick Jungle and "Kenny Kagan" on The Starter Wife. In 2010 he guest-starred on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, White Collar, Law & Order: Criminal Intent and The Mentalist.

David has also starred in the TV Land original series The Exes, which premiered on November 30, 2011. The series ended its run in September of 2015.

He is married to actress Alysia Reiner; they met during a summer stock production of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. The couple have a daughter, Livia Charles Basche, born in December of 2008.

Memorable Quotes

“You have to be careful what you say in front of comedy writers because they will absolutely make fun of it in the next episode.”

“Stop running around, stop trying to return every email in your inbox immediately, stop cramming too much stuff into too few hours in the day. Sit down, shut up, and most importantly, be glad.”

“I'm happy to be the guy on the subway that people stare at and they just can't quite place it. I don't really like my life intruded upon too much. In a way, it's kind of nice to not be all that well known.”

“I'm grateful for my health, glad I'm making people laugh, glad my wife still likes me after a lotta years, grateful my daughter is growing, glad I don't take myself too seriously, glad L.A. has Astro Burger, grateful to be coming home to Harlem soon. It's a gratitude list. It works.”

“I'm a huge fan of 'The Odd Couple,' yes, and any comparisons to Tony Randall and or Jack Lemmon are completely welcome. I kind of try to channel those guys, and then add my own neuroses, too.”
