About Cleavon Little (1939 – 1992)

Cleavon Little was born on June 1st, 1939 in Chickasha, Oklahoma. He went to Juilliard on a scholarship, then worked in New York on the stage.

Little won a Tony award for the musical, "Purlie". His television credits include the 1964 soap, ANOTHER WORLD. He played a blind DJ who acted as an electronic guide to a car delivery guy on a cross-country speed mission in the cult movie, VANISHING POINT, in 1971. The following year, Little played the lead in the 1972 sitcom "Temperature's Rising," portraying hospital doctor Dr. Jerry Noland.

In 1974, Cleavon Little played the sophisticated, urban Sheriff Bart in the Mel Brooks Western spoof and hit comedy, BLAZING SADDLES. This is the role he is best remembered for.

Cleavon Little appeared in 60 movies and television projects over the course of his career.
