Chris Sarandon was born in Beckley, West Virginia on July 24, 1942. He is the son of a Greek immigrant and restaurateur.
Susan Sarandon married Chris Sarandon in 1967 but they were later divorced in 1979. In 1980, he married Lisa Cooper and they were later divorced also. They had three children. In 1994 to present, Chris Sarandon is married to Joanna Gleason and they have one child. Joanna Gleason is the daughter of LETS MAKE A DEAL star, Monty Hall.
Considered to be a very handsome, versatile and worldly looking guy, he has played everything from vampires to Jesus Christ. His performances have been controversial but hard to miss.
As a teenage, Chris Sarandon appeared on the musical stage playing drums and singing back-up with a local band called The Teen Tones. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1960. His band did so well they toured with Bobby Darin and Gene Vincent.
Sarandon attended West Virginia University majoring in speech. There, he appeared in the musical production of THE MUSIC MAN. Chris continued his education at the Catholic University of America In Washington D.C. He received his masters degree in theatre. He meant Susan Sarandon, who starred in IRRESISTIBLE in 2006 at the university and they were married shortly after his graduation.
Chris Sarandon's professional debut was in 1965 in THE ROSE TATTOO. In 1968, he was cast for a role on THE GUIDING LIGHT. The part lasted him two years. On Broadway he appeared in THE ROTHCHILDS AND TWO GENTLEMEN FROM VERONA.
In 1976 Chris Sarandon's first film was DOG DAY AFTERNOON.
His superior work opened the doors to many other films such as LIPSTICK, THE SENTINEL, THE DAY CHRIST DIED, A TALE OF TWO CITIES, and PROTOCOL.
He had a role in FRIGHT NIGHT the teen horror classic. Sarandon played a very sexy hypnotic vampire-next-door character. Chris Sarandon followed FRIGHT NIGHT with THE PRINCESS BRIDE in 1987.
Chris Sarandon is the speaking voice of Jack Skellington of THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS.
