Bruce Greenwood was born in Noranda, Quebec, Canada on August 12, 1956. His given birth name is Stuart Bruce Greenwood.
His father, Hugh John Greenwood, was the Head of the Geology Department at the University of British Columbia. Bruce Greenwood's mother, Mary Sylvia Ledingham, was a nurse in an extended care unit. Bruce Greenwood has two younger sisters, Kelly and Lynn. Greenwood's nickname growing up was Greendog. He was raised for the most part in Vancouver where his family moved when he was
eleven.
Susan Devlin married Bruce Greenwood in 1985. They began dating when they were both eighteen. They have one child.
Bruce Greenwood graduated from high school in Zurich, Switzerland. He attended the University of British Columbia for three years where he studied Philosophy and economics. To earn money to attend The London Central School of Speech and Learning, Bruce Greenwood worked as a diamond driller in the North West. He also worked in a chemical factory and on a sail boat in Greece. He attended The American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City.
Bruce Greenwood plays alot of sneering villains. He relaxes by singing and playing his electric guitar. Bruce Greenwood also enjoys making talking books with different dialects. He likes to spice up his speech with sound effects and different accents.
Bruce Greenwood became interested in acting when he saw Brad Dourif's performance in ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S BEST in 1975. Greenwood began his professional acting career in the theatre in Vancouver.
ST. ELSEWHERE in 1982, was Bruce Greenwood's breakthrough role. His first big screen role was the pilot of the HBO series THE HITCHHIKER.
While filming, THE CLIMB, in 1986 he broke his ankle on location in the mountains of Pakistan. Bruce Greenwood also broke his leg doing a dancing routine in the touring company of CRUEL TEARS. He damaged the same leg in a motorcycle accident three days after the cast came off his leg.
Bruce Greenwood is an outdoorsman. He enjoys skiing, skydiving, sailing and hiking. He is also a golfer and participates in celebrity tournaments.
