Bedelia in Die Hard.

About Bonnie Bedelia (1948 – )
Bonnie Bedelia Culkin was born in New York City, New York March 25, 1948, the daughter of Marian Ethel, a writer and editor, and Philip Harley Culkin, a journalist.

From 1961 to 1967, Bonnie was a regular on the CBS soap opera, Love of Life, playing the role of Sandy Porter. She also worked on Broadway, making her debut supporting Patty Duke, in 1962, in "Isle of Children." She won a Theatre World award in the lead of "My Sweet Charlie", in 1966. In April, 1969, she guest-starred in The Unwanted, an episode of the TV series, Bonanza.

Films beckoned at this point, and Bonnie made her debut lending top-notch support in The Gypsy Moths; (1969). She earned even better marks in her next two films; one performance simply haunting and the other one hilarious. Once again she is playing pregnant and once again delivering a touching pathos.

In the superb, award-winning, Depression-era drama, They Shoot Horses, Don't They?;(1969), Bonnie played the dirt-poor, marathon dancer who pitches songs for pennies. This character was also pregnant with Bruce Dern's child, while trying to compete in this dance marathon; with disasterous results.

On the other end of the acting spectrum, Bonnie portrayed the lovable bride-to-be, in the side-splitting, comedy classic; Lovers and Other Strangers; (1970).

Bonnie took time off from acting in the 1970s. In the early 1980s, Bonnie's big comeback came again on the movie trail. She absolutely nailed the role of race car driver, Shirley Muldowney, in Heart Like a Wheel; (1983). She was surprisingly overlooked at Oscar time, despite the praise she received.

Despite respected work in subsequent movies, such as Violets Are Blue; (1986), The Prince of Pennsylvania; (1988), Presumed Innocent; (1990) and a running role as Bruce Willis's put-upon wife, in Die Hard; (1988), Bonnie began to find better and more frequent parts on TV. She found her niche in TV-movies with social themes, and tugged at more hearts in Switched at Birth; (1991) (TV), A Mother's Right: The Elizabeth Morgan Story; (1992) (TV), Any Mother's Son; (1997) (TV) and To Live Again; (1998) (TV).

As the new millennium dawned, Bedelia was cast as the unhappy mother of the town's beauty in the CBS remake of Picnic (2000). In the ensemble comedy, Sordid Lives; (2001), Bedelia was cast as a homophobic woman coping with two bomb shells; the incarceration of her gay brother and her son's declaration of his homosexuality. In The Division (Lifetime, 2001), an ensemble cop show, she was cast as the captain of a police precinct.
