Audrey Tautou was born on August 9, 1976 in Beaumont, France. Audrey developed an interest for comedy at an early age and started her acting lessons at `Cours Florent', a highly prestigious theatrical institution.
In 1998, she won the best young actress award in the ninth `JEUNE COMEDIEN DE CINEMA FESTIVAL' in Bezier. She then came to the attention of Tonie Marshall who gave her a role in her film VENUE BEAUTE (institut) (1999) for which she won a Best New Actress Cesar.
In 2000, Audrey was again nominated for a Cesar and her movie FABULEUX DESTIN D'AMELIE POULAIN, LE (2001) which has been a phenomenal success worldwide.
Also in 2000, she won the Prix Suzanne Bianchetti as her country's most promising young film actress.
In 2005, Tautou worked in her first full Hollywood production, opposite Tom Hanks. In the film version of Dan Brown's best-selling novel THE DA VINCI CODE, directed by Ron Howard and released in May 2006.
Tautou is next to star in the upcoming biopic of fashion designer COCO CHANEL.
The script of the new movie is partially based on Edmonde Charles-Roux’s book “L’Irrégulière” (”The Non-Conformist”). This was part of promoting new Coco Chanel bio film in May 2008. Tautou was named as the next spokesmodel for Chanel No. 5, replacing Nicole Kidman.
An American band from Levittown, New York called, Brand New, devoted a song, "Tautou", from their album Déjà Entendu to her.
She was chosen by Empire magazine as one of the 100 Sexiest Stars in film history (2007).
Tautou has said that Meryl Streep, Paul Newman, Juliette Lewis, Jodie Foster, and Julianne Moore are her acting idols.
Her boyfriend is rock singer Mathieu Chedid, also known as "M".
