Perkins in PSYCHO.

About Anthony Perkins (1932 – 1992)

Anthony Perkins was born April 4, 1932, in New York City, New York. He is the son of stage character-actor, Osgood Perkins. Anthony Perkins married wife Berry Berenson in 1973, and the two were together until his death, in 1992. He is the father of Oz and Elvis Perkins.

Anthony was an American juvenile lead of the fifties who is probably best remembered for his role in Alfred Hitchcock's classic thriller "Psycho" (1960). In fact, Perkins' trademark was playing psychotic roles, starring in several similar films. Perhaps these roles contained a certain personal element for Perkins. It seems he was very interested in psychoanalysis and began seeing New York physician Dr. Newman for his issues, from the 1950s to the 1970s.

In 1953, Perkins landed his first lead role, in 1953's "The Actress". His performance prompted his future replacing of John Reardon in the Broadway play, "Tea and Sympathy".

His widow, Berry Berenson, was a victim of Flight AA-11 out of Boston that was crashed into the World Trade Center by terrorists, on Sept. 11th, 2001.

Anthony Perkins was found to be HIV Positive in 1990. He died two years later from AIDS-related pneumonia.

Perkins was nominated twice for Broadway's Tony Award. In 1958, he was nominated for Best Actor (Dramatic– for his performance in "Look Homeward, Angel"). He would also be nominated for a Best Actor (Musical) Tony for his performance in 1960's "Greenwillow".
