Anne Ramsey (1929 - 1988)

Anne Ramsey was born on September 1, 1929 in Omaha, Nebraska.

On August 11, 1988 Anne Ramsey died in Los Angeles, California, of throat cancer.

Anne Ramsey was the daughter of a successful insurance executive and her mother was a descendant of the Pilgrims.

Anne Ramsey attended Bennington College and was active in several on and off Broadway productions.

Logan Ramsey married Anne Ramsey in 1954 and was with her until her death in 1988. During Their marriage, the couple formed Philadelphia's Theatre of the Living Arts.

It wasn't until the early 70s that Ramsey began her acting career in films. In 1971 she played opposite her husband in THE SPORTING CLUB.

After her role in THE SPORTING CLUB, Anne Ramsey was noticed for the tough female characters she could play. She began to receive a lot more offers for roles in films. Some of the films that depicted this kind of tough character were GOIN' SOUTH in 1978, ANY WHICH WAY YOU CAN in 1980, THE GOONIES in 1985 and DEADLY FRIEND in 1986.

Three and a half months after she received an Oscar Nomination for her role in the film THROW MOMMA FROM THE TRAIN, she died.

By the mid 1980's, Anne Ramsey discovered she was suffering from throat cancer. She was forced to have parts of both her tongue, and jawbone removed. She continued to work almost right up to her death. She died at the Motion Picture and Television Hospital in Los Angeles at the age of 59.
