Anne Francis was born on September 16, 1930 in Ossining,
New York. She began her career at age 6 when she became a
John Robert Powers model. By age 11 she had already appeared
on several radio soaps in New York which would land Anne her
first role on Broadway in "Lady in the Dark".
Although first contracted with MGM after WWII, her career
didn't seem to be heading in the right direction. Eventually
she would head back to New York and land a contract with Fox,
whose casting would land Anne the trademark of the blonde
"ingenue". She would make her most notable mark
on the industry in the 1950's starring alongside stars like
Spencer Tracy and Sidney Poitier in the films "Bad Day
at Black Rock"(1955) and "Blackboard Jungle"(1955),
respectively.
Anne sued Columbia Studios after the 1968 mega-musical film
"Funny Girl" was released, claiming that her role
was cut to shreds, with most of it left on the editing floor.
Anne first married Bamlett Price Jr. in 1952. They were divorced
three years later. Anne would remarry Dr. Robert Abeloff in
1960 but they too would divorce; this time four years later.
Anne has yet to remarry. She has one child with Dr. Abeloff.
