Anjelica Huston (1952 - )
Anjelica Huston is considered American leading lady. She was born in Santa Monica California,
but grew up in Ireland. Anjelica Huston is the daughter
of director John Huston, and the granddaughter of actor, Walter Huston. She lived with actor Jack
Nicholson in LA, from 1973-89. Huston spent her early life in Ireland. Anjelica Huston only made a few forays into films in tiny often uncredited roles, while pursuing a career as a fashion model.
Her work in leading roles commenced when she was 39 years old, when her father cast her in his 1985 movie, PRIZZI'S HONOR, as the calculating, spurned daughter of a Mafia don. Her performance won her the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award.
In 1990, Anjelica Huston played a tough con artist named Lilly Dillon in the GRIFTERS. She was nominated for the Best Actress Oscar for her performance in Grifters. Huston was nominated the previous year for Best Supporting Actress for her work on ENEMIES: A LOVE STORY.
In 1991 and 1993, Anjelica Huston starred in THE ADDAMS FAMILY and ADDAMS FAMILY VALUES. She portrayed Morticia Addams, the svelt, adoring, macabre wife of Gomez Addams, played by an exuberant Raul Julia.
In 1998, she played the nasty, heartless stepmother in EVERAFTER, a retelling of the Cinderella story with Drew Barrymore playing the Cinderella character.
Anjelica Huston was a member of the ensemble cast of THE ROYAL TENEBAUMSIN 2001, the Wes Anderson directed story of a family of has-beens.
Huston waxed philosophical on her exotic looks: "There were times when I hated my nose. But you grow up and you start to recognize that maybe it wasn't a bad thing that you weren't born Barbie."
She discussed her actress parts in Hollywood: "I've never been the kind of actress whose sole interest was sex appeal, so I think that earns you some longevity. And I like character parts. It's a lot more fun and you don't have to rely on being the taste of the moment. That level of fame is probably very difficult to deal with. People screaming your name in the streets, quite honestly, isn't an audience I'm desperate to capture. I'm lucky. The people who tell me they like my work tend to be the kind of people I might be friends with anyway. I have a really nice audience."
