About Amy Adams (1974 – )

Amy Lou Adams was born in Vicenza, Italy. Amy was the fourth of seven children of American parents, Kathryn and Richard Adams. Amy Lou Adams was raised in Castle Rock, Colorado. Amy sang in the school choir at Douglas County High School. She was also an apprentice dancer at a local dance company.

Adams began her performing career on stage in dinner theaters, before making her screen debut, in the 1999 black comedy film, Drop Dead Gorgeous. Her breakthrough role was in the 2005 independent film, Junebug, playing Ashley Johnsten. She received critical acclaim and an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

Her next film was Disney's 2007 film Enchanted; a critical and commercial success. She received a Golden Globe nomination for her performance as Princess Giselle. Also, in 2007, Amy appeared in the major production, Charlie Wilson's War (2007); co-starring with Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts and Philip Seymour Hoffman.

She received her second Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations the following year for her role as a young nun, Sister James, in Doubt.

Amy then starred in Julie & Julia, alongside her DOUBT co-star, Meryl Streep.

Amy's next role was Amelia Earhart in Night At The Museum 2: Battle Of The Smithsonian, opposite Ben Stiller. Although the film received mixed or average reviews, Adams' performance was praised by most critics. Director Shawn Levy, says of her: "I don't know that there's a better actress in her generation... I mean, there are other big female actors, but someone who can do Doubt and Julie & Julia, and Night at the Museum 2, all in the same year? Her range is almost unparalleled. It's a huge part of why we feel that Night at the Museum 2 is even better than the first."

She played the aggressive and gritty girlfriend of Irish Micky Ward, in The Fighter (2010). She has been nominated for the Golden Globe Award, Broadcast Film Critics Association Award, a BAFTA Award, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, and an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
