THE PIANIST (Drama)

At the age of 29, Adrien Brody won his Best Actor Oscar for his brilliant portrayal of the popular Jewish Pole pianist, Wladislaw Szpilman. He survived the Holocaust in Nazi-occupied Warsaw.

He is the youngest actor to win the Oscar in the Best Actor category, and the only actor to win, while, competing with 3 other well-known actors.

About Adrien Brody (1973 - )

Adrien Brody was born on April 14, 1973. H is the only child of Hungarian-born photojournalist Sylvia Plachy, whose family had fled Communist Hungary in 1956. Adrien's father is Elliot Brody, a now retired history teacher. Elliot had grown up in a Polish-Jewish family in New York. He had lost family members back in Poland in the concentration camps, during WW2.

Adrien's acting talent appeared at a young age. By thirteen years of age, Adrien had appeared in his first off-Broadway production. This was his first PBS-TV movie special. He of course was a student of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and graduated from New York's High School for the Performing Arts.

Adrien had 13 films under his belt by his 25th birthday, Adrien's talent was then displayed in his strong performance in the film THE THIN RED LINE in 1998, much of which unfortunately wound up on the cutting room floor. Adrien Brody just kept going, and worked with directors such as Spike Lee and Barry Levinson.

When Roman Polanski asked him to play Wladislaw Szpilman. Adrien put his all into preparing for this part. Adrien Brody learned to play Chopin, gave up basic things like his car and apartment. He lost 30 pounds, in an attempt to really feel the hurt and despair of the Polish Jews. His own relatives who suffered so much at the hands of the Germans, during this time. Mr. Brody went into THE PIANIST production with this mindset, was a grand springboard into his brilliant performance which won Adrien Brody the Oscar.

KING KONG shows a lighter side to his acting as well as his range, bouncing from serious scenes to comedy.
